The story behind this keynote...
I learned about the importance of “future design” growing up as an artist in a rural hunting/football town, population: 1,311, in the middle of nowhere in the very center of the United States.
In my family, I have no rich relatives, no political connections, no corporate executives… just two amazing, working-class parents who believe hard work, imagination, and persistence can build the life you want to live.
When I finally found my tribe (in high school, two brothers moved to town and shared my love of music), we cranked up our electric guitars in the garage and made terrible music that, to me, sounded like freedom.
That’s when I discovered the magic of designing the future: when you dare to create something that doesn’t exist yet, you don’t just make art — you make possibility.
